Kartini Emergency School

On May 2007, Indonesian education world shocked by a news about Sekolah Darurat Kartini (Kartini "Emergency School"). This school, located under freeway bridge in Ancol, got fired. Since that, news about Kartini "Emergency School" became booming. After that bad news, there was a rumor that Jakarta Province Government would relocate this school.


This school established by twin woman, Sri Rosianti and Sri Rianti, on 1996. Actually, Rosianti has teaching for poor kids on Jembatan Tiga and Rawa Bebek, West Jakarta, for free. Beside that, Free teaching has been done by this twin since they accompanied their husband duty, Rosianti in Borneo jungle and Rianti in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.


On 1990, Rosianti trap in student fighting at a warehouse on Pluit, North Jakarta. On that location she saw a lot of poor people build their house under a freeway bridge. She also saw lot of those family kids play and work, without never get school before. Base on this experience, she decide to build a school for this kids, and this school is free for those poor kids, and named Sekolah Darurat Kartini.

Now, this twin lady may happy by this school, because for more than 10 years, this school successful scored 2.000 alumni. Even some alumni became police officer, nurse, company employee, bank cashier, and many more job field.

Beside that, they got a support from Indonesian Parliament (exactly IV Committee of Peoples Representative Board, DPR). This Committee is dealing with Indonesian transportation and infrastructure, made a guarantee that this school could still continuing their study activities. The reason that make this Committee support this school is Jakarta Province government until now couldn't make sure new location for this school.

Well, at least it's a good news for this school. We should support this school, because it's really needed by those poor kids. Let's see waht would be happen for this school.

Renungan untuk sang Pendidik

Pagi itu, di dalam kelas Ibu guru Leni terkejut oleh pertanyaan siswanya. " Bu, siapakah yang lebih pintar, Einstein atau Mike Tyson ?" . Pertanyaan itu langsung membuat sang guru kaget dan marah. Dengan suara lantang ia menjawab pertanyaan muridnya tersebut. " Mana mungkin Tyson yang kerjanya memukul orang dibandingkan dengan Einstein yang menemukan hukum relativitas."

Si siswa penanya-yang kebetulan atlet basket yang telah mengharumkan nama sekolahnya- tidak cuma merasa kecewa, tapi juga merasa sia-sia dengan bakatnya. Dia tidak pernah dianggap siswa cerdas dan pantas memperoleh penghargaan dari sekolah.

Kasus tersebut banyak kita jumpai dan membuat kita bertanya tentang arti kecerdasan. Apakah yang cerdas mereka yang pintar dalam studi, yang memiliki IPK lebih dari 3,0 dan yang memiliki IQ lebih dari 100? Fakta membuktikan bahwa sebagian siswa yang nilai rapornya bagus kemudian banyak yang menganggur. Sementara yang memiliki bakat yang "cerdas" banyak diterima di beberapa bank sebagai pegawai tetap. Lebih hebat lagi mereka jauh lebih sukses dibandingkan teman-temannya yang pintar dibidang studi.

Bagi orang awam, kasus itu biasa-biasa saja. Namun bagi pengamat pendidikan, kasus diatas merupakan sesuatu yang luar biasa. Disebut luar biasa karena ternyata kepintaran dibidang studi belum tentu menjadi orang yang sukses di masyarakat.

Lalu, apa yang salah dengan itu semua? Menurut saya, ada yang salah dengan paradigma kita dalam pendidikan. Kecerdasan hanya diartikan dengan nilai 9 yang berserakan di rapor siswa. Hanya diukur dengan IPK tinggi belaka. Kini mungkin sudah saatnya para pendidik di negeri ini memulai terobosan dalam memilah potensi kecerdasan yang dimiliki otak kita.

Menurut Prof. Sidiarto Kusumoputro, ahli saraf UI, otak mempunyai potensi KISS ME (Kreatifitas, Imajinasi, Sosialisasi, Spiritual, Musik( kalau menurut saya sense of art), dan Emosi). Oleh karena itu dia menyarankan pendidikan yang mengandung unsur2 tersebut. Dengan demikian bisa membuat berbagai kecerdasan otak manusia lebih optimal.

Menggembirakan sekali bahwa hal itu semua bertumpu pada kekuatan otak kita. Karena hal tersebut membuktikan bahwa kekuatan terbesar bukan pada bagian luar tubuh manusia. Kekuatan ada pada diri manusia. Problemnya , banyak pendidik kurang mengenal potensi siswanya. Mereka hanya meracuni kemampuan otak siswa dengan intelektualitas belaka. "Gnothi Teauton," kata Socrates. " Kenalilah dirimu!".

Oleh karena itu semua , maka sudah sewajarnya paradigma pendidikan yang hanya menilai kecerdasan siswa dari kemampuan studi seperti Matematika (saya sangat benci sekali dengan matematika dan kroni-kroninya). Sudah saatnya para pendidik, membimbing siswa untuk mengenali diri mereka dan potensi "kecerdasan" yang mereka miliki....

Sekolah Alam


There is a phenomenon in Indonesia about education concept, called Sekolah Alam (Nature School). This concept established to change paradigm that qualified school must be expensive, so that poor family could not effort a good quality in education.

To answer this paradigm, Lendi Novo the conceptor, try to made an education system which not depend to expensive equipment but made nature as knowledge source. There is another unique idea, the students also could manage this school system.

At the beginning, the location of Sekolah Alam was on Jalan Damai II Ciganjur. Because of some good response and some need, on 2001 Sekolah Alam Ciganjur move to Jalan Anda 7X in front of Kelurahan Ciganjur office, South Jakarta.

If you want to see this school, or perhaps you want to register your son why don't you try to visit the school. At least it's an alternative for education or school system in Indonesia. Isn't it?

National budget for education in Indonesia and China

There are so many differents about education in Indonesia and China. One think which is so very important is about national budget on education. China’s central government has expenditure of 3 billion yuan (US$375 million) for the building or renovation of 2,810 rural boarding schools, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has announced on its website.
The expenditure is part of a three-year program beginning in 2004 to build or renovate 7,662 rural boarding schools in a bid to improve educational facilities in the countryside. Total funding for the program amounts to 9 billion yuan (US$1.13 billion). Spreading across 953 counties in central and western China, the boarding schools will be able accommodate 2 million students when they are completed.
By the end of April, more than half of the 4,852 schools for which fund had been allocated in 2004 and 2005 had been completed, the NDRC said.The 3 billion yuan slated for 2006 comes in two parts. Half comes from the central budget, while the other half is raised through treasury bonds.

What about edcucations budget in Indonesia..???We already know that Indonesian Constitucy (UUD 1945) has gave 20 % for education budget from national budget. But, base on data its only 11,8 % from 2007 national budget. It’s only Rp 90,10 triliun Rp 763,6 triliun, totals of National Budget.

So, we must not suprise about several facts in Indonesia about Education world. The salary of teachers is so cheap. There are so many school building condition is so bad. Education Payment is so expensive. And there so many facts in Indonesian education. Can you name it….???

School... what for?

I really worried about education in Indonesia. Many students doesn't get a graduation in national examination (Ujian Negara), cost of study so expensive, etc. Based on that case, what does people get? Smartness? It's a relative answer. Get better life and make rich and happy? We heard that so many parents sold they filed, loans some money to make their son get an education. And after their child graduate from their school or college, do the children and also parents get a good wealth? It's depend...

There are so many unemployment who has a diploma degree every year is the real fact that school has wrong on their work. It iss based on Andreas Harefa statement. In my opinion, school teach us by make fear the students (you will feel gulty if you get a bad mark, are you? ) so the student doesn't have a gut and creativity to make their self as a independent man. We can see lot of students who haven't a good in their study doesn't have a good attention from school. We can get a simple example, a student who has long hair ( "rambut gondrong", Indonesia ). Maybe by his long hair he has a good talent on music.

So what is the conclusion?
First, i just can say that school isn't made the student has an intelligent skill. Have you heard about "titip absen" on college? Then school doesn't guarantee about their welfare and happiness.So we can make a wrong judge about Iwan Fals song. Even, top rich people in the world a lot of them doesn't had a diploma degree. Concrete example is Bill Gates.

You don't have to get high level study. School only make us can read, and maybe make us a good "penjilat".
